Overhead – Silent Witness
Overhead est un groupe que j’ai découvert complètement par hasard. A une époque où je pratiquais différents sports de planches, j’avais l’habitude de visionner des vidéos de ces sports, et vers 13-14 ans, je suis tombé sur un DVD de glisse (kitesurf et snowkite) qui m’a marqué. On y voyait par exemple des riders remontant une pente enneigée, avec des mouvements d’autant plus gracieux qu’ils étaient filmés au ralenti, et c’est le morceau « Air », d’Overhead, qui les accompagnait.
N’ayant pas encore une culture musicale très étendue, j’ai écouté ce groupe un peu en boucle, partout ou j’allais, quand je faisais de la longboard ou dans mon lit le soir. Du coup, dans ma mémoire, Overhead reste associé aux sports de glisse. Il suffit que je réécoute ces morceaux pour me retrouver dix ans en arrière et me sentir un peu nostalgique … Bref …
Le groupe Overhead sort son premier album « Silent Witness » en 2002. C’est un album de 11 titres, parfois mélancoliques, parfois plus énergiques, parfois folks, avec des parties de guitare acoustique accompagnées de la voix douce et pure de Nicolas Leroux.
La musique nous invite fortement à la rêverie, aux souvenirs, au voyage … Je ne trouve pas que l’album ait vieilli, et avec le recul je m’aperçois qu’il possède une esthétique propre.
